Light is a Shetland pony, daughter of Love, and mother to Karuna. She is a pony who has been through much adversity but has found comfort in always having her mother by her side to protect and support her. Both Light and Love were pregnant when their situation became one in which they needed rescuing. I AM HERD went to pick them up from an auction site and bring them both home to the sanctuary land. Once here, both Light and Love were sick and quarantining while they were receiving veterinary treatment. Because Light was on the younger side, and having her first baby herself, she had a more difficult pregnancy than Love. Light’s son, Karuna, was very sick when he was born, but with time they all have made a full recovery. Now, Light and her family are as happy to be in a safe place with new friends to enjoy their days within the pony herd. Light especially enjoys her time here at the sanctuary land, raising her baby Karuna and taking each day one step at a time.

Light is in need of sponsorship! We are dedicated to offering her a forever home at I AM HERD, but as a non-profit, we count on public support to care for these Mustangs and do the work that we do. Do you feel a connection to this steadfast pony? If so, would you become a Light Sponsor?

Read on to learn more of her story …

As you can see in this photo above, Light and her family have grown into a more extended family within the pony herd. Rico has fallen in love with Light’s mother, Love, and has become an assistant in caring for Light and Love’s babies. Which is a major change from when they first arrived at the sanctuary in quarantine. Both Light and Love were sick and in need of help at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. They had to be in quarantine on the sanctuary land to prevent the spread of disease to other horses, at a time when many people around the world were in quarantine too. The similarities between what these ponies went through and humankind, are profound, feeling scared, isolated, and hoping to survive. Now, the Shetland pony herd is living with all the others in the pony herd including, Rico, Sahaja, Amigo, Aural, and Squirt. This herd of 9 is one big family and an incredible story of perseverance.

In this photo above, Light can be seen with her baby Karuna. He was very sick when he was born, and so was Light. Her mother Love was healing at a quicker rate and was able to give her milk to help Karuna heal. This family is one of a very strong bond!

As you can see, Light loves to enjoy and share hay with all those in the pony herd. This herd is one of peace and acceptance – and they have welcomed the shetland pony herd in with open arms. In the very back of this photo, you can even see one of our most grounded members of the pony herd – Terrance the pig! Can you spot him?

Light is in need of Sponsorship. If you feel a connection to Light it would be our honor for you to amplify that connection by a direct contribution to her care.

Sponsoring an I AM HERD horse or pony is one of the most supportive things you can do for our work and mission. And the most amazing part is the way it truly connects the Caregiver TO the horse or pony they are Sponsoring! These wild ones just know and they are so grateful for Your help!

As a Gift of Gratitude for your Sponsorship, we will mail you a handmade doll in the likeness of your horse or pony! Along with a custom Mustang Mala that is a necklace for the doll and a bracelet for you! We send out additional Gifts of Gratitude throughout the year as well as send you personal updates from your horse or pony!

Above all, you will know that your donation ensures that we can provide the best of care to this wild one that you feel a connection to. Sponsorships are a monthly donation of $50, the cost of a bale of hay, and are a one year commitment. You may opt to have your monthly donation withdrawn automatically or you may pay in full for the year either via check or online credit card. The annual commitment begins the month you begin your Sponsorship (so a Sponsorship initiated in Feb 2020 will run through Feb 2021)

Blessings from this herd to your heart, there is truly a wild horse in all hearts that are drawn to them ~
