Agenda (this may be adjusted):
10:00 am – 10:15 am ~ Orientation
10:15 – 10:30 ~ Sanctuary Stroll with an awareness on each aspect of HERD (Helping Engaging Reflecting Discernment)
10:30 – 11:00 ~ Mustang Mentorship supported by the Sanctuary Mustangs. This is an interactive process where Mary and one of the Mustangs work together to build trust in one another. There are many lessons that arise from the journey of a wild horse as they learn to navigate a world that is so different from what they know. Many of these lessons apply to our own human lives and our personal interactions with one another, including the dynamics between parents and their children and visa versa.
11:00 – 11:15 ~ Hands on Interaction with the Herd and opportunity to put into practice what has been learned.
11:15 – 11:50 ~ Mindfulness Art activity. This will compliment the Mustang Mentor’s message of the day and assist with our further embodiment of this supportive way of moving through life together.
11:50 – 12 noon ~ Group Reflections
*Each Workshop will have a unique theme
Laurel Herbert is a professional potter and fiber artist by trade and has been teaching creative arts programming independently for nearly 20 years. She is an all around facilitator of creativity who loves working with children in nature through the arts. She lives by the motto “What Catches the Eye, Inspires the Hand”. Laurel has a BA in studio art from UNCW. She is a trained ALF (Agile Learning Facilitator) and loves to engage with children in intuitive and out of the box ways calling on her years of experience with teaching outreach programs and homeschooling her own children.  She has been actively engaging the community at large in alternative education initiatives for several years and is excited to be a part of Mustang HeARTS.
Mary Miller-Jordan is a nationally acclaimed wild horse gentler, founder of non-profit I AM HERD and home-school mother of three young girls. Mary’s connection with the horse has always been her most direct connection with her deepest authentic self. It is Mary’s desire to share what the horse has gifted her, with others. This is the inspiration behind the Wild Horse Assisted Wellness Programs of I AM HERD, such as Mustang HeARTS. A similar I AM HERD program, Mustang Mentorship & Meditation is hosted in the backyards of schools supporting children in need through partnership with Communities in Schools of Cape Fear.
Pandemic Precautions: Each workshop will be limited to 4 Family Bubbles. Each Family Bubble may consist of children, parents, guardians that share a Family Bubble in their daily lives. The Sanctuary is very large and there is plenty of open air room for each Family Bubble to have space to interact without the need to wear masks and remain 6 feet away from other Family Bubbles. Facilitators will be masked during any time they are within 6 feet from participants. Each Family Bubble will be provided with their own Art Supplies.
Restrooms/Handwashing: Each Family Bubble will have their own private restroom amenities as well as private hand washing station. We use Composting Toilets on the sanctuary. They are similar to an outhouse, but much more environmentally friendly and very clean.
I AM HERD is a non-profit organization, if you are able to assist we welcome your SPONSORSHIP of a Mustang HeARTS Family in need to attend a workshop. Sponsorships start at $50 (this covers costs for a family of 2) Each additional $10 you donate will cover one additional family member.
