Rainbow is quite the amazing Mustang, with quite the amazing back story – much of the details we do not even know – and do not need to. What we do know is that she experienced much trauma and confusion with humans in her past and has come to I AM HERD with unexpected gifts to share with all those that feel a connection to her and the unique struggles she faces as she enters the journey of healing from trauma and rearranging herself into the Wild and Free Being that she came here to be.

Rainbow has her first two Sponsors, Jenn and Zac Cross, steadily building amazing caregiving support to create her Sponsor Team of 7. Would you like to join them in honoring, loving, and supporting Rainbow by becoming a Sponsor today?

Have you ever had something pulling at you from the inside. A silent voice that somehow speaks louder than words? Well, this is exactly what happened to me (Mary) when I first saw this post shared here below. This was written by the original adopter …

When I read the above post I was in route cross country to adopt a new Wild Mustang mama and her filly foal. We had already committed to adopting the pair and bringing them home to the sanctuary and it was hard to even imagine how we could take in another needy Mustang at the time. But it did not matter what my ‘brain’ had to say, there was something much louder speaking and it was that silent voice that could not be ignored.

This Mustang NEEDS us and there was a familiarity about her so powerful that I could not shake it. You see, one of our Mustangs passed away only a little over a year ago. Her name is Colors and she is one of the reasons we founded the I AM HERD Mustang Sanctuary in the first place! It is because of my relationship with Colors, that I wanted to create a safe Sanctuary for more wild horses that need us … as well as a safe Sanctuary that can be shared with other humans. I wanted to share with others what the Mustang has gifted me – a direct connection with my deepest authenticity. This is what our Sanctuary is all about – our mission is two-fold. We offer Sanctuary for Mustangs and Sanctuary for humans …  and Colors and the other Ambassador Mustangs from my original Heart Herd are reason it is in existence. (Below is a video by filmmaker Ivy Schexnayder featuring my Heart Herd, the Ambassadors of I AM HERD. Colors is the one with the huge mane .. she is the one that looks like this new Mustang in need!)

When I saw this image of this Mustang in need, I could not help but see COLORS painted all over her. From her physical conformation, to her color and markings to even the texture of her hair. Even the position her legs are in, in this image, just said COLORS to me so powerfully. … It was not as if I felt like this mare was Colors, but more so, I felt SO STRONGLY that Colors was DIRECTLY guiding me to HELP THIS MARE…. and it did not matter that I was already committed to helping this other mama Mustang and her baby …. I just knew I HAD to help this mare too. It was a voice so quiet that I could not ignore it.

When I reached out to the original adopter of this Mustang that Colors sent, I was touched to hear just how passionate the original adopter was about securing a SAFE home for this Mustang. This Mustang had been a ‘three strikes’, passed over three times on the internet adoption and because of this, her owner had bought her as a Sale Authority. She had said the mare gentled up quite easily and when she sold her to the trainer, she thought it was a good fit. She was distraught to hear that this Mustang was possibly headed to auction and she had bought her back and brought her home to follow through on her original commitment to care for this Mustang … but she was overwhelmed by the deep scarring that this mare now had and she knew she was not the one to help her through it. She agreed to surrender the mare to me, under the terms that I would help her learn to trust humans and ensure that she NEVER ended up in this situation again. I agreed.

The image of her running is from her Internet Adoption photo, where she was passed over 3 times before bought as Sale Authority.

All of this took place while I was picking up this new wild mama and foal! I did not have room on the trailer to pick up this new rehabilitation Mustang AND this new mare & foal pair on the way home to NC … and so I reached out to a friend and I AM HERD supporter, Clair Coley, whom lives in central TN – about 4 hours from where this Mustang was. Clair agreed to pick her up for me and foster her at her farm! The next spring I would travel to Clair’s and pick up Rainbow to bring her forever home to I AM HERD.

That is just what we did.

Now, almost a year has passed and this new amazing Mustang has surprised me in ways I could have never expected. The gifts she has to share run so deep, so pure, so needed for this world we live in today. Rainbow is not the only sentient Being that has experienced a life of pain and trauma. There are many individuals, many humans, that have experienced a similar journey as she. One of the most powerful programs we offer through I AM HERD was truly born through the rehabilitation journey with this very Mustang and they still continue today. There is something so powerful, so transformative, so deeply alchemical and healing when a group of individuals gather around this amazing Mustang and observe a live session where I interact with her, offering her opportunities to heal, offering her new pathways to learn to allow her emotions to be set free, rather than holding them within so tight. … The ‘ah ha’ moments that show up in the participants, as I say YES to Rainbow for nothing more than Rainbow simply being her amazing self. It is gold. It is divine. It is Grace. It is this Mustang.

Rainbow is always surrounded and supported by a team. A team of Mustangs that I have a strong connection and communication with. These Mustangs offer her the steadfast peace that she craves to feel from her own body. Rainbow lost something during her experiences of trauma. She lost something that most Mustang have the most natural, innate ability to do. She lost the ability to Let Go. She lost the ability to Set Free that which no longer serves her – and with this, she lost her ability to – Be Free.

Rainbow is re-learning. Rainbow is healing. Rainbow is becoming born again with each breath she takes. Step by step, breath by breath, she is re-learning to Let Go. Rainbow is once again, learning how to Be Free and she is bringing countless other individuals with her -Together, all re-learning, all re-becoming once again – Free

Rainbow is in the center, meeting her new herdmates, the Soul Sisters!

Rainbow is in need of Sponsorship! She has 2 of her 7 Sponsors and is building her team of support one breath at a time. Do you feel a connection with Rainbow? If so, we would be honored for you to join her Sponsor Team.

Sponsoring an I AM HERD horse or pony is one of the most supportive things you can do for our work and mission. And the most amazing part is the way it truly connects the Caregiver TO the horse or pony they are Sponsoring! These wild ones just know and they are so grateful for Your help!

As a Gift of Gratitude for your Sponsorship, we will mail a professional print on archival paper of your sponsored horse! We send out additional Gifts of Gratitude throughout the year as well as send you personal updates from your horse or pony! (below is a video of Rainbow’s doll and Rainbow!)

Above all, you will know that your donation ensures that we can provide the best of care to this wild one that you feel a connection to. Sponsorships are a monthly donation of $50, the cost of a bale of hay, and are a one year commitment. You may opt to have your monthly donation withdrawn automatically or you may pay in full for the year either via check or online credit card. The annual commitment begins the month you begin your Sponsorship (so a Sponsorship initiated in Feb 2020 will run through Feb 2021)

Rainbow already has er first 2 Sponsors! She only has 5 to go to complete her Sponsor Team! Will you help her?

Blessings from this herd to your heart, there is truly a wild horse in all hearts that are drawn to them ~
