I AM HERD Mustang Camp is happening summer of 2022!
*Sponsorship opportunities for those that would like to attend but need financial support.*
Immerse in our Mustang Sanctuary, home to 25 wild & rescued Mustang horses & ponies! Campers will learn about America's wild horses, with the wild ones themselves! Meet Rico, our resident Corolla Wild Horse, (the official NC State horse), born on the beaches of NC. Meet our Graysons Highlands Feral pony Sahaja, born along the Appalachian Trail in the mountains of Virginia. Meet our rescued Shetland pony herd and their babies born right here. Meet Clarity, a Mustang pony that is a descendant of ponies that lived working inside mountains, pulling carts in mines. Meet gentle giant Andre, a huge draft horse Mustang that was born close to the old Oregon Trail in Wyoming and descends from the carriage horses that pulled wagons west in the 1800s migration. Meet Teddy, an elderly Mustang that recently joined I AM HERD (pictured here with our daughter Sorrael Lyn) And meet many other Mustang beings, each with their own stories, history and personalities as well. They are unique and beautiful.. Just like us!
And there will be ART - So Much Art! Campers will create art inspired by the wild horses, with the wild horses! Laurel Herbert is our art facilitator and will be leading mindful creative art experiences throughout all five days of camp.
Even including wild horse hair pottery, where each camper will have the opportunity to create pottery using sacred strands of hair donated from the wild horse they feel a connection with!
There will be wild horse gentling demonstrations by I AM HERD founder, Mary Miller-Jordan, guiding the campers how to tune into the sensitive energies of the Mustangs and communicate from a place of sensitivity that the wild ones know so well. We will learn about positive reinforcement and how it supports inner motivation, relaxation and sovereignty within the horse (and humans!). Campers will learn how to to care for the herd, including feeding, grooming, hoof trimming, and even explore some science as we look at fecals under a microscope to determine if they need worming! We will also explore and be learning about holistic therapies that support the herd and how they naturally support each other.
And there are GOATS! So many goats. We will be spending time with the goats as well! Campers will learn to hand milk our special dairy goats, and learn to create goat milk soap! The goats are also amazing at learning through positive reinforcement training and each campers will be partnering up with a goat to do some actual one on one training themselves! And of course there will be Goat Yoga!
